Die making process
The most common types of dies perform cutting and forming. Cutting dies are used to shear sheet material into what is called a blank. These blanks are then exposed to blanking dies which cut the entire perimeter of the part, or to forming dies where the blank is stamped into a part.
Steel for through hardening
The material grade 1.2379 is considered the âclassicâ steel in die making. This material is also used as a whole cutting die plate, as it has very good dimensional stability after hardening. Meusburger also offers NP precision bars made of this material. Generally, it is used for medium strength (up to approx. 400 N/mm²) strip material. The working hardness is approximately 60-62 HRC.
